Aston Martin has completed the restoration of a rare classic DB5 sports car that had been neglected at a driveway for nearly 45 years, Jalopnik reports.

When the car first appeared on the roads in the 1960s, its price was around £4,000–5,000 (approximately $5,000–6,250). Over the decades, the DB5 became one of the UK’s most recognizable models and a legend in car culture, partly thanks to its appearance in James Bond films.

But when it had arrived at the restoration center, the car was in extremely poor condition. The body and mechanical components had suffered serious damage from corrosion, the elements, and prolonged neglect. Aston Martin learned of the car’s existence, took it under their wing, and began a comprehensive restoration in their own workshop, transforming the neglected, rusted DB5 into a restored vehicle meeting factory standards.

Experts completely disassembled the car, cleaned and restored its body, and replaced or refurbished numerous mechanical components while preserving the historical features of the original vehicle. The interior was refreshed while maintaining its authentic style, and the mechanical components were restored to near-new condition.

Appraisers estimate that after restoration, such a DB5 today could be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds—roughly $625,000 up to over $1,250,000—depending on its history, originality, and quality of restoration. For comparison, Aston Martin DB5s in good condition now regularly sell at auctions for over £500,000 (approximately $625,000) and can even reach £1 million or more (approximately $1,250,000 or more) for rare models.

The restored DB5 is intended for public display and may even be added to the brand’s museum collection, making it accessible to classic car enthusiasts and future generations.
