The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia did not comment on the statement by Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, regarding the “Trump Route” made during a meeting with the Armenian ambassador to Iran.

According to the Iranian side’s report, Velayati stated that the “Trump plan” is practically the same as the “Zangezur corridor” project, but under a different name, and therefore Iran is categorically opposed to it.

Armenia MFA spokesperson Ani Badalyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that their position on the matter is well known. “The Armenian embassy has issued a statement regarding the meeting; please to be guided by it,” Badalyan added.

According to the statement released by the Armenian embassy in Iran, Ambassador Grigor Hakobyan informed Velayati that the “TRIPP Route” will be implemented based on the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, legality, and reciprocity of the countries involved, and will create broad opportunities for regional connectivity and economic development.

“The RA [i.e. the Republic of Armenia] ambassador reaffirmed that Yerevan highly values Tehran’s unequivocal position on fully respecting the above principles and, in turn, takes into account the security and political sensitivities of friendly Iran,” adds the statement from the Armenian embassy in Iran.
