The suspension of financial assistance from the European Union (EU) to Georgia may also extend into 2026. Based on the results of 2025, no financial assistance was provided to the country, the European Commission told Izvestia.

But this does not mean a complete halt to EU funding; however, significant state-level funding next year is unlikely unless clear political changes take place in Georgia, Tomas Zdechovsky, a Member of the European Parliament, told Izvestia.

He recalled that the suspension of this EU funding for Georgia occurred due to serious concerns about a retreat from democratic principles and violations of the rule of law in the country.

According to Zdechovsky, Georgia is in a deep political crisis, and the human rights situation there has significantly deteriorated since the 2024 parliamentary elections.
