Armenia has been and remains an ally of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), and the doors are open for the country’s full participation. CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov stated this in an interview with TASS.

“Armenia has been and remains our ally. We hope that in the foreseeable future Armenia will return to full participation in the CSTO; all the conditions and prerequisites for this exist. We proceed from the [assumption] that the people of Armenia are interested in creating a common security space in Eurasia. Moreover, in November Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement that a matter of the republic’s withdrawal from the CSTO is not on the agenda,” Tasmagambetov said, responding to a question about Armenia’s possible exit from the organization.

“As is known, the Republic of Armenia has placed its work in the organization in a state of suspension, which reflects the current position of Armenia’s political leadership toward the CSTO. This is the decision of an independent and sovereign state; no other state or organization can influence it,” the CSTO secretary general noted.
