At least 1,106 people have been killed as a result of severe floods and landslides on Indonesia’s island of Sumatra, while another 175 are still considered missing, the country’s national disaster management agency reports.

According to its data, around 7,000 people have sustained injuries of varying severity as a result of this natural disaster.

Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency reported that the flooding was triggered by torrential rains that have continued in the region since late November.

Mudflows damaged residential buildings, roads, and infrastructure, making it difficult for rescuers to access the most affected areas.
