The Yalda celebration was held at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Yerevan, attended by a number of Iranologists and Orientalists, professors and teachers of the Persian language in Armenian schools, students of Iranology, and Armenian learners of Persian.
During the ceremony, Dr. Shirgholami, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, welcomed the guests and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the professors of Iranology chairs and Persian language teachers. He described Yalda as one of the most beautiful and meaningful Iranian celebrations, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and representing blessing, fertility, and compassion.
In another part of his remarks, Dr. Shirgholami emphasized the importance of preserving Yalda and other traditional celebrations and transmitting these cultural values to younger generations. He noted that through the recitation of Hafez’s poetry and the sharing of instructive stories on this night, young people and children become more closely acquainted with Iranian and Islamic culture.
Dr. Voskanyan also referred to Yalda as one of Iran’s ancient festivals and a symbol of the country’s culture and civilization. He stated that this celebration has played a significant role in Iran’s stability, resilience, and independence, and that the preservation of such festivals and traditions has ensured the continuity and vitality of Iran’s civilization, which will endure in the future as well.
During the ceremony, Persian poems were recited by students of the Persian language from Armenian schools and by students of Iranology. The event concluded with a performance by the Mehr Ayin music ensemble, which presented selections of traditional Iranian music and was warmly received by the audience.
