For the first time, a shipment of grain has been sent to Armenia by rail from Russia’s Volgograd region—and via Azerbaijan.

Railcars loaded with wheat departed from Gmelninskaya Station in the Volgograd region, the press service of the Privolzhskaya Railway told Vokzhski.ru.

They will arrive at the Armenian capital Yerevan’s railway station via Azerbaijan.

The first shipment consists of eight railcars of grain. In total, more than 2,000 tons of wheat are planned to be sent to Armenia by the end of 2025, which will amount to about 30 railcars.

Following the decision to resume the transit of goods to Armenia through Azerbaijan, a new logistics service has become available. This is the first time such rail transportation has been possible since the 1990s.
