Russia is closely following the developments surrounding the Armenian-American project “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” announced in Washington. Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin stated this in an interview with the Noev Kovcheg newspaper.

“So far, we have only heard this grandiose name. Practical work on its implementation, as far as we know, has not yet begun. Our [i.e. Russia’s] position will be formulated when this initiative receives concrete formulation.

Moreover, ‘Trump Route’ may affect Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, since the transit of goods through the territory of the [Armenian] republic is regulated, among other things, by the laws of the Eurasian Union.

We are ready for substantive consultations with our Armenian partners on this issue. Russia has consistently advocated the unblocking of transport links in the South Caucasus, especially since progress in this domain was initially based on a series of trilateral agreements signed between the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in 2020-2022.

We believe that relevant processes should take into account the interests of all interested countries in the region and their neighbors," added the Russian ambassador to Armenia.
