Civil society initiatives between Armenia and Turkey have prospered during last 15 years and researchers question whether those initiatives are effective or not, the Turkish Today’s Zaman writes.

According to some opinions, the Armenian-Turkish conflict differs from others as there is no violence currently, although there has been violence in the past.

Research shows that the Turkish-Armenian Business Development Council (TABDC) was the first initiative of creating communication between the countries.

It is also mentioned that Turks pay more attention to Armenia and the Armenians in spring as works are being done in order to prevent the U.S. President to classify the massacres of 1915 as genocide during his annual statement. At the same time, Armenian forces are mobilized for the opposite aim.

Among failures in the initiatives it is mentioned that they are directed towards a group of people who are already convinced that Armenian-Turkish relations must develop. According to the researchers, the new initiatives must be directed towards a broader range of people, like women and different nationalist organizations.
