The attempted attack on the Russian state residence in the Novgorod region is aimed not only at Russian President Vladimir Putin, but also at US President Donald Trump, said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“It is aimed not only at President Putin personally. But I would like to recall [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy’s Christmas message and his words addressed to Putin,” Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

According to him, this attempted attack “is also aimed at Trump, aimed at undermining President Trump’s efforts to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.”

The attempted attack by Ukraine on the Russian state residence in the Novgorod region cannot disrupt the trustworthy dialogue established between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Peskov added.

"The [Russian and US] presidents maintain the trustworthy nature of their dialogue and continue the dialogue. Such provocations, such acts of state terrorism cannot undermine this level of trustworthy dialogue between the two presidents," the Kremlin spokesperson said.
