If the US court finds former Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro guilty on four counts, he could face the maximum penalty, according to the New York Post.

Maduro is accused of violating the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) of the US as part of an ongoing criminal activity, DW reports.

Death sentences for drug-related crimes are rare, and most such sentences are related to murder, the newspaper adds.

Earlier, US Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that Nicolas Maduro and his wife “will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts.”
