Thirty-three aftershocks were recorded in Japan’s Shimane Prefecture where an earthquake was recorded on Tuesday, RIA Novosti calculated, based on data from the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The 6.4-magnitude quake in Shimane Prefecture had occurred at 10:18am local time. The epicenter was located at a depth of 11 kilometers. No tsunami alert was announced. The intensity of the tremors in the area of the earthquake's epicenter was 5+ points on the seven-point scale adopted in Japan.

According to the latest data, nine people were injured.

The strongest aftershock was 5.1 magnitude, which occurred ten minutes after the earthquake. The weakest aftershocks had a magnitude of 2.8.

After Tuesday's earthquake, meteorologists have warned that the risk of new strong aftershocks would persist for a week.
