Two Armenians have been killed as a result of the mass protests and riots in Iran. Zareh Sinanyan, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia, told this to reporters Thursday.

“There was one confirmed [Armenian] casualty, the second casualty seems to have been confirmed. There is talk of higher numbers, but we do not have any clear information,” he said.

According to Sinanyan, there is no direct contact with the Armenian community in Iran. “We are in contact solely thanks to the flights, thanks to the people who come. The internet is down [in Iran]. As of yesterday, we had no contact even with our embassy [there],” he said.

And regarding the transfer of Armenians from Iran to Armenia, he said: “It is impossible to discuss this issue in a vacuum. We need to find out on the ground, get at least minimal information about what's going on [in Iran]. There is no large influx from Iran yet. There are those coming and going, but they are not Armenians."
