The situation in the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia became tense today at the meeting of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security. The State Security Service officers wanted to remove the reporter from Armlur.am, but the ruling majority and opposition MPs did not allow it.

NA Chief of Staff and Secretary General Davit Arakelyan told reporters: “Before being accredited [at the NA], you are obliged to familiarize yourself with the routine and the accreditation procedure. It is clearly noted that the reporter, accompanied by an MP or an MP assistant, goes to meet with the MP in the room and is escorted back.”

To the remark that the chairman of the aforesaid committee, Andranik Kocharyan, allowed the reporter to cover the committee meeting, Arakelyan responded: “Andranik Kocharyan or any other committee chairman cannot allow reporters other than accredited reporters to carry out their activities.”

After that, Andranik Kocharyan also called on the reporters to leave the committee’s sessions’ room.

Ultimately, the reporters left the room.

But in the corridor, they got into an argument with Davit Arakelyan.
