The normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish relations is not a trilateral process. Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this at Wednesday’s session of the National Assembly of Armenia, answering the questions of MPs.

"Within the framework of the political agenda, we [i.e. Armenia] are implementing two processes of normalization. In both, we have tangible successes and clearly worded ideas, as well as expectations regarding further steps and final results. We declare that they, as a political agenda, are not conditioned by each other. However, for the one who looks at the process through the eyes of a completely objective researcher, it's hard not to notice the connection," Mirzoyan said in response to a request to comment on the words of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who had linked the Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization with the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.

According to the Armenian foreign minister, the close ties between Ankara and Baku are no secret to anyone.

“In a sense, we must accept this connection… I believe [that] if we [i.e. Armenia] have reached an agreement with Azerbaijan as of today, have taken another step forward in strengthening or institutionalizing peace, then we can take these steps without waiting for any development in terms of normalizing relations with Turkey. Yes, there is certainly a certain connection, but it would be an exaggeration to carry out these processes in the same place and at the same time,” Mirzoyan said.
