There is no criminal proceeding against the Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia (RA) informs.

Aysor.am had petitioned to the Prosecutor General's Office with a written request asking to provide information on whether there is any criminal proceeding initiated regarding the Catholicos of All Armenians.

"There is currently no information on the criminal proceeding in the RA Prosecutor's Office ‘regarding’ the person mentioned,’ the prosecutor's office replied.

We had also asked the prosecutor's office to provide information on the framework of which proceeding the director of Shoghakat television company, Manya Ghazaryan, was questioned.

The prosecutor's office, however, noted that in the interests of the investigation, it is not possible to provide information,” Aysor.am added.

As reported earlier, the Hraparak daily had written that the Armenian authorities were preparing a new criminal case against Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.

“We were told that the Investigative Committee [of Armenia] is investigating a charge under the ‘money laundering’ article [of the Criminal Code]. The director of Shoghakat television company, Manya Ghazaryan, who is also included in the case, was questioned within the framework of these proceedings,” Hraparak had noted, in particular.
