The 27 member states of the European Union (EU), including Hungary, have approved the allocation of €20 million in aid to Armenia from the European Peace Facility (EPF) of the EU.

The decision was made Wednesday, the sources of Azatutyun, the RFE/RL’s Armenian service, report from Brussels. Armenia had submitted an application for assistance from the EPF last year, but Hungary had blocked it. Budapest had said it was not against Armenia receiving assistance, provided that the same amount of aid was also provided to Azerbaijan.

After diplomatic meetings and behind-the-scenes negotiations, however, Hungary has changed its position. This is the second time Armenia will receive assistance from the EPF. The first was provided in July 2024, for €10 million.

This time, the amount has been doubled, with the priority being to strengthen Armenia's armed forces and defense capabilities by providing logistics and medical equipment, as well as necessary technical training. The amount is intended for the next 35 months.
