At least 20 US Air Force military transport aircraft have arrived in Armenia and Azerbaijan ahead of the arrival of US Vice President JD Vance, Sputnik Armenia reports.

Vance will be on an official visit to Armenia on Monday and Tuesday. And from Yerevan, he will depart for Baku.

According to Sputnik Armenia, most of the aforesaid aircraft arrived in Yerevan and Baku from February 4 to 8. In particular, 12 military transport aircraft arrived in Armenia, and another 9 aircraft departed for Azerbaijan. The aircraft arrived mainly from US bases, refueling at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

Nearly all these flights were carried out by Boeing C-17a Globemaster III, a military transport aircraft weighing up to 77.5 tons. In addition, Lockheed Martin MC-130J Commando II specialized military transport aircraft, designed for the US Air Force's special operations forces, also flew to Yerevan and Baku.

They made two flights to Georgia.

This activeness of US military transport aviation in Armenia and Azerbaijan has also become a subject of discussion before Vance's visit in the context of tensions around Iran and the deployment of US forces near its borders.
