The construction of a new nuclear power plant in Armenia is high on the agenda of relations between Moscow and Yerevan and is regularly discussed at various levels, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin has said, Izvestia newspaper reports.

Russian state corporation Rosatom is ready to begin implementing this project as soon as possible, but naturally, taking into account the wishes of its Armenian friends.

“In terms of the availability of reliable, proven technologies, as well as appealing financial parameters, including the need for construction, future operation, and training and retraining of specialists, there are no viable alternatives,” Galuzin added.

Izvestia recalls that on February 6, Rosatom director general Alexey Likhachev met with the speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, and in September 2025, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had attended the World Atomic Week held in Moscow.
