Ukrainians sensed that time was running out. In the coming weeks, as Trump’s campaign increasingly focuses on the issue, he may decide that the talks have been a political failure. At that time, he could walk away, blaming the diplomatic failure on the intransigence of one or both sides, the magazine noted.

For nearly a year since Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a televised argument with Trump and US Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office in February 2025, Ukrainians have tried hard to show their willingness to compromise, the magazine added.
