A US Navy P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine patrol aircraft on Tuesday conducted a reconnaissance flight over the Strait of Hormuz, where the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran is conducting military exercises, according to the aviation resource Flightradar24.

The aircraft took off from Isa Air Base in Bahrain. During the flight which lasted several hours, it flew over the Strait of Hormuz, between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The flight was carried out at a relatively low altitude of about 6,000 meters.

The Iranian exercises in the Strait of Hormuz are testing possible military scenarios. According to Fars news agency, in particular, the IRGC submarines are being trained in destroying surface targets, launching cruise missiles from sea and land, and using new types of missiles capable of operating in an electronic warfare.

Earlier on Tuesday, a US MQ-4C Triton long-range electronic surveillance drone was launched from Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, and it conducted a flight lasting several hours over the Gulf of Oman, southeast of the Iranian coast.
