Iran's permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, said in a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres that Tehran will respond "decisively" if subjected to US military aggression.

Iran will give a decisive and proportionate response if subjected to military aggression, noted the letter

The Iranian diplomat stressed that if Iran were attacked, it would consider “all bases, facilities, and assets of the hostile force” in the region as “legitimate targets.”

It was noted that US President Donald Trump's rhetoric towards Iran "signals a real risk of military aggression," but added that Iran did not want a war.

If the US approaches the negotiations with all seriousness and sincerity and provides for genuine respect for the principles of the UN Charter and the norms of international law, then a strong and balanced decision may be reached, the letter states also.
