ArmLur.am has learned details surrounding the suicide of former prosecutor Tigran Sukiasyan. In particular, relatives of former prosecutor Tigran Sukiasyan said that he had been suffering from deep psychological depression following his dismissal. As previously reported, he was removed from his position as prosecutor in 2024. According to orders issued by Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan in December 2023 and January 2024, a number of personnel changes took place within the Prosecutor’s Office. As a result, Tigran Sukiasyan, prosecutor of the Syunik Garrison Military Prosecutor’s Office, was relieved of his position.

According to his relatives, Sukiasyan graduated with honors from the Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University. They described him as a fair and principled person who had no personal problems with anyone and no harmful habits. He had a wonderful family and a young daughter. His relatives said that Sukiasyan had devoted a significant part of his professional career to the prosecutorial system and public service. His relatives claim that from 2019 to 2022, he served as a prosecutor in the Prosecutor’s Office of the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district of Yerevan.

In December 2022, it was decided to send him to the regions. Despite permanently living in Yerevan with his wife, who was expecting their first child, Sukiasyan was transferred from the Malatia Prosecutor’s Office to the position of prosecutor at the Syunik Garrison Military Prosecutor’s Office. It is possible that the intention was for the recently married prosecutor, who was expecting a child, to refuse to work far from his place of residence and submit a resignation of his own accord. However, Sukiasyan went to Kapan.

In December 2023, by decision of Anna Vardapetyan, Tigran Sukiasyan, prosecutor of the Syunik Garrison Military Prosecutor’s Office, was relieved of his position. Sukiasyan did not challenge the decision in court, as he did not want to cause any harm to the prosecutorial system, hoping that one day he would return and once again have the opportunity to contribute his efforts to the noble cause of strengthening the rule of law and serving the state selflessly.

According to his relatives, Sukiasyan never came to terms with what they considered an injustice committed against him and continued to hope that he would return to the system. However, on February 22, his body was found in the Hrazdan Gorge. Whether his decision to take his own life was connected to his departure from the prosecutorial system, or whether the former prosecutor had other problems, will be determined by the investigation.
