Mkrtich Mkrtchyan, the brother Armenian Ambassador to the US Narek Mkrtchyan, has been sentenced to one year in prison in connection with a criminal case on illegal possession of weapons, Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the DataLex judicial information system of Armenia.

Mkrtich Mkrtchyan was arrested on August 4, 2025.

The respective verdict of the Armavir provincial court, however, required to count the four months of the defendant Mkrtich Mkrtchyan's actual imprisonment from September 3, 2025 to January 3, 2026, and to impose a final sentence of imprisonment for him for a term of eight months.

The verdict adds to conditionally not apply the aforesaid sentence imposed on Mkrtich Mkrtchyan in the form of imprisonment, and to set a probationary period of one year.

Also, the verdict requires to leave the alternative measures of restraint applied to Mkrtich Mkrtchyan—administrative supervision with its restrictions, bail in the amount of 2,000,000 drams, and a travel ban—unchanged until the judgment enters into legal force, and subsequently, to return the 2,000,000 drams paid to a bank deposit account to the payer.
