Until 2024, most of Armenia’s border checkpoints were under Russian overseeing, or there was a presence of Russian border guards; for example at Yerevan’s international airport. But now, all of Armenia’s border checkpoints are overseen by Armenia’s border guards. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a meeting with foreign ambassadors, diplomats, and representatives of think tanks in Poland—and in response to a question about the Russian military presence in Armenia.

“Naturally, we [i.e. Armenia] are grateful to Russia for its presence there. As a newly independent state in the early [19]90s, we did not have the ability to provide that type of service, but we are currently able and developing our [respective] capabilities,” Pashinyan added.

“As for the Russian military base [in Armenia], we [i.e. Armenia] have no plans, programs, and we have no concerns related to the presence of the Russian military base," the prime minister noted, and added that Armenia is a close partner with Russia.
