YEREVAN. – Armenian Deputy Speaker Edward Sharmazanov received on Tuesday German journalists Richard Kiessler and Knut Teske, who arrived in Armenia to get acquainted with the Armenian position on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, as well as the reasons of the conflict, possible settlement, social-economic and political situation in the state.

Deputy Speaker praised the fact that the journalists arrived in the scene to assess the problem in the region, parliamentary press service informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The guests told that they have been in Azerbaijan last year, and will visit Karabakh as well. According to Sharmazanov, Europeans should know that tolerance is the basis for democracy, while Azerbaijan promotes racism and threatens with war. As a supporter of peace settlement, Armenia offers to make a compromise, while Azerbaijan insists the contrary. Cooperation requires mutual trust. 

In response to what Armenia should do if Azerbaijan does not recognize the Karabakh independence, Sharmazanov said that Karabakh gained its independence and it is not Azerbaijan but international community to recognize it.

The sides also discussed Armenian-Turkish relations, issues on the Armenian Genocide and its international recognition.
