US Vice President JD Vance has categorically ruled out the possibility of a protracted US war against Iran.

In an interview with The Washington Post, he said that if US President Donald Trump were to order military strikes against Tehran, there is no chance that the US would find itself in an endless, exhausting conflict.

However, Vance admitted that he does not know whether Trump will decide to strike Iran, adds Bild.

Among the US options, according to Vance, are military strikes to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons, or a diplomatic settlement.

Some US officials, however, are counting on larger-scale attacks than just the bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities in June 2025.

In his interview with The Washington Post, Vance recalled last year’s military actions against Iran and the US capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro in January, both of which were very specific actions.

The US vice president still considers himself skeptical about foreign military action—a skepticism that Vance said Trump shares.
