Canada said on Friday it is relocating non-essential diplomatic staff and their family members from the Israeli city of Tel Aviv due to “ongoing tensions in the region” amid U.S. plans to strike Iran.

“Global Affairs Canada has decided to temporarily relocate non-essential staff and dependents from Tel Aviv,” the government said in a statement.

It is specified that the Canadian Embassy in Israel remains open.

“Canadian personnel and their dependents in Lebanon and Palestine remain in place, and our missions continue to operate as usual,” the statement said, also urging Canadians in Iran to “leave the country now if they can do so safely.”
