Israel has carried out a preemptive strike on Iran, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said, according to The Times of Israel.
Katz also announced the “immediate imposition of a nationwide state of emergency.”
“The State of Israel has launched a preemptive strike against Iran in order to eliminate threats to the State of Israel,” he said. Meanwhile, sirens are sounding across Israel as the Home Front Command of the Israel Defense Forces warns civilians to stay close to bomb shelters.
The statement says that “due to the security situation,” civilians should make sure they know the location of the nearest optimal protected shelter and avoid unnecessary travel.
The Israel Defense Forces said that the “preemptive alert is intended to prepare the population for a possible missile attack on our territory.”
According to the Israeli military, there is currently no requirement to remain in shelters.
