The Russian Embassy in Iran has urged its citizens to leave the country via Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"In addition to previous information, the Embassy advises that the optimal routes for leaving Iran are via Astara to Azerbaijan (please note that crossing the border requires obtaining the necessary permission from Azerbaijani authorities in advance) and via the Norduz/Agarak checkpoint into Armenia. Please exercise caution and vigilance while travelling," the Russian Embassy's statement reads.

Earlier, the Embassy urged its citizens to leave Iran if possible, to refrain from visiting the country until further notice, and to remain vigilant.
