Iran has confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the ISNA news agency reported.

"We belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran has been killed," the statement reads.

A 40-day mourning period has been declared in the country in connection with Khamenei's death.

Previously, Fars news agency reported that the daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and one of the daughters-in-law of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei were killed as a result of the US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

On the night of March 1, US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform about the death of "one of the most evil people in history" — Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Meanwhile, Tasnim news agency claimed that the Supreme Leader continued to direct combat operations from an operational headquarters.
