The killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by the US and Israel has sparked protests in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, where demonstrators clashed with security forces in the city's Green Zone — the heavily fortified area that serves as the residence of the Iraqi government, parliament, and foreign embassies, Al Jazeera reports.
According to the channel, protesters were waving flags and chanting slogans.
Eyewitnesses claim that protesters were attempting to mobilize for a storming of the US embassy.
Footage has emerged showing several protesters attempting to block vehicles at a roundabout near the gates leading into the Green Zone.
