A temporary governing council will soon be formed and a new Supreme Leader of Iran will be chosen, said Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani, Press TV reports.
In his statement, Larijani also said that Israel seeks to divide Iran. However, according to him, "all the conspiracies that Israel has been hatching against the Islamic Republic have been foiled for the time being."
"The nation will not allow others to divide Iran. The US and Israel have struck at the heart of the Iranian nation and must wait for their own hearts to be wounded in response. Iran has throughout its history stood against all kinds of acts of aggression. People must forget their differences and unite," Larijani was quoted as saying.
On the night of March 1, US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social page the death of "one of the most evil people in history" — Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Meanwhile, Tasnim agency had claimed that the Supreme Leader was continuing to direct combat operations from a command post.
Iran confirmed the death of the country's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. A 40-day period of mourning has been declared in the country. Earlier, Fars agency reported that Khamenei's daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and one of his daughters-in-law were also killed in the US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
