Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a new statement calling the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, “an open act of war against Muslims,” Mehr News Agency reports.

“The President of Iran described the killing of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution as an open act of war against Muslims around the world, especially Shia communities worldwide,” the Iranian outlet wrote.

Earlier, Pezeshkian said the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei would not go unanswered.

“This great crime will never remain unanswered and will open a new chapter in the history of the Islamic and Shia world,” a statement on his Telegram channel said.

Pezeshkian added that with the support of the Islamic nation and free peoples around the world, those responsible for and involved in the killing of Khamenei would regret their actions.
