The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran, Jeyhun Bayramov and Abbas Araghchi, discussed the military escalation in the region during a phone call on March 1, Azerbaijani media report.

According to a statement by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, the conversation focused on the situation arising from the military actions in Iran and the broader regional escalation. The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran provided information on the current situation and the steps taken.

Bayramov, for his part, “expressed serious concern over the tragic escalation of the situation in the region, the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, and civilian casualties.”

“Hope was expressed for an early cessation of hostilities and that the current situation would be resolved exclusively through dialogue and diplomatic means in accordance with the norms and principles of international law.

It was also emphasized that no country can use the territory of Azerbaijan against neighboring and friendly Iran.

During the phone call, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest,” Azerbaijani media wrote.
