Thousands of protesters gathered near Islamabad’s heavily guarded Red Zone, home to diplomatic missions and government buildings, following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to Al Jazeera, gunshots and tear gas explosions were heard as security forces attempted to disperse the crowd advancing toward the diplomatic enclave.

The crowd chanted anti-American slogans, calling those who support US actions traitors.

Some people were seen crying, while Shia leaders praised Khamenei’s “courage and bravery.”
