A vessel near the Strait of Hormuz has been struck by an “unknown projectile,” the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

According to the statement, the ship, located north of Oman and east of the strait, was hit above the waterline by an unidentified projectile. “Although an engine room fire was initially reported, it is now understood that the fire is under control,” UKMTO said.

Authorities are investigating the incident, the statement added.

This is the second incident reported by the agency today, following an earlier alert about an event off the coast of the Omani island of Kumzar in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Iranian media report that a tanker struck in the Strait of Hormuz is sinking.
