Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had summoned Iran’s ambassador after the kingdom accused Tehran of carrying out strikes on its territory.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Ambassador of Iran to the Kingdom in response to Iran’s brazen attacks that targeted the Kingdom and a number of brotherly countries,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Tehran was engaging with counterparts from neighboring brotherly countries to clarify that Iran is exercising its right to self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter.

“Iran will not sit idly by when the United States attacks our people. We regret that the targets are located in friendly states,” he noted.

Israel struck Iran on the morning of February 28. US President Donald Trump also announced the start of a US military operation against Iran. Military facilities in western Iran, the residence of the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and an elementary school in the city of Minab were hit.

In response, Iran carried out missile strikes against Israel and US military bases in the region.
