The hotline of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia has received about two dozen calls so far, mainly from compatriots in the United Arab Emirates, and from Armenian citizens themselves; the questions usually related to flights. This was stated by Nelli Duryan, the spokesperson for the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia, in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am, referring to the question of what calls their office has received these days, from which countries, and whether there are any affected among Armenians in various countries in connection with the developments on Iran.
"In this regard, we, of course, post information that we have, but we also urge our compatriots to also follow the [Armenian] MFA website, hotline, and statements.
As for the Armenian communities in the Middle East, our persons in charge are constantly in touch, but, as you know, now, for example, there are major communication disruptions in Iran and other countries. At the moment, we do not have information about the casualties among Armenians. We do not have any other information yet,” Duryan said.
As for the possible damages among Armenians in Israel, Nelli Duryan said: “We have not received calls from Israel, today we have established contact with our community in Israel, there are no incidents related to Armenians, schools and workplaces are closed, our compatriots are mainly at home or in shelters.”
Earlier, the Armenian foreign ministry announced that Armenians in the United Arab Emirates may try to return to Armenia via Oman. When asked whether there were any people returning to Armenia via that route, Duryan said that she did not have information on that, and that this should be asked to the Armenian foreign ministry.
“When the situation in any sector becomes tense, naturally we try to work more intensively, monitor the situation, and maintain contact. Naturally, we are working more intensively than our usual daily routine," said the spokesperson for the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia.
