Germany has absolutely no intention of participating in a war against Iran, German foreign minister Johann Wadephul said, DW reports.

“Unlike the United Kingdom, which allows the United States to use its British military bases in the region to destroy Iranian missiles and launch sites, Germany does not have such bases there,” he added.

In addition, according to the FM, Germany “also does not have the appropriate military resources,” but “Bundeswehr soldiers would probably defend themselves in the event of an attack.”

German army units are currently deployed in Jordan and Iraq.

When asked whether the Israeli and US attack on Iran was illegal under international law, the German official replied that “there are doubts in that regard” and that “a comprehensive assessment of the political and security aspects should be carried out.”

The German foreign minister noted at the same time that “Iran poses a significant threat not only to Israel and the region, but also to Germany and Europe.”
