Two of our borders were closed for 24 hours due to problems with the relevant systems operating on the border, Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami told a press conference Monday.

“One of them is the Iran-Armenia border itself. This problem was resolved as of 9:30 this morning, traffic and movement on both sides are already taking place without any problems. Our consul general in Kapan [city of Armenia] is located right on the Iran-Armenia border, and taking into account that the relevant systems on the border have not worked for more than 24 hours, he will try to find out what the situation of the movement of people [there] is like, whether there was a buildup or not. He assured me that there were none. He informed me that 30 to 40 people were waiting at the border, all of whom had international [airline] tickets and were supposed to fly from Yerevan,” Shirgholami added.

“And there is the opposite option of this process; that is, many of our citizens choose the option of returning to Iran by arriving by plane to Yerevan, from where they will already reach Tehran by land. According to the data we have yesterday, there were about 20 such citizens, and we organized for them to travel by land to Iran. And this evening, about 15 more people will arrive in Yerevan, who will also travel by land to Iran,” noted the Iranian envoy to Armenia.

“We have not noticed and do not have any abnormal human flow at the border that could be called ‘refugees;’ we did not have any during the 12-day war either. Unfortunately, with still existing and pending dangers. There are possible cases among the population of Tehran when people move to other southern regions and villages, where it is safer in terms of security. Iran is a large and vast country with a very wide potential, and even in crisis situations we have the appropriate capabilities to regulate the situation to some extent," added the Iranian ambassador to Armenia.
