Is this a corridor or just a route? I think our point of view is the same as the point of view of the Republic of Armenia. Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami told this to a press conference Monday—and regarding the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project.

“The idea of a ‘corridor’ that some were pursuing implies certain concessions in the issue of sovereignty, which were not acceptable for Armenia and were also not acceptable for Iran.

An artificial name was also proposed for it—‘Zangezur Corridor,' regarding which Iran resolutely stated that Iran would not tolerate any geopolitical change, as well as any change in the issue of sovereignty. And the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, whose loss we mourn today, had many famous words that criticized this very artificial idea.

A route or road is a direction that is used for the movement of people and goods. Regarding whether we [i.e. Iran] have concerns in the context of relations between Armenia and America, precisely regarding the ‘TRIPP Road,’ we have always had discussions with officials of the Republic of Armenia. We always emphasized during these discussions that we should move in the direction outlined by the leaders of the two countries, and this direction, this road, which from a communication point of view can create new opportunities for Armenia, should in no case become a source, a tool for use by foreigners against Iran.

We have also reaffirmed our support for the project called ‘Crossroads of Peace,’ which can ensure the interests of Armenia.

The Armenian authorities have always assured us that under no circumstances will this route, this road, have military and security significance, and Armenia's sovereignty will be preserved on this route. Therefore, we do not want to fall into these guesses at this time as to whether America has such plans or not. There is trust between us and Armenia and it exists," said the Iranian ambassador to Armenia.
