Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said Tuesday that amid regional tensions with Iran, no regular contacts are being maintained, Reuters reports. "Regarding contacts with Iran, there are no regular contacts at this time. As I said, we are focused on protecting our sovereignty," al-Ansari said at a press conference.

He added that Iran's targets are not limited to military facilities but include all of Qatar's territory. Al-Ansari also stated that Qatar received no advance warning of the attacks, and that Doha "was surprised by these unjustified attacks."

Al-Ansari also addressed the two Iranian Su-24 aircraft shot down on Monday. Qatar's Defense Ministry said its air force successfully intercepted both planes. "Regarding the aircraft shot down yesterday — these aircraft crossed into or entered Qatari airspace. Upon entry, the pilots were warned in accordance with rules of engagement. After confirming that these aircraft were heading toward the city of Doha based on their trajectory, they were engaged and all rules of engagement were applied. The search for their crews continues, but the threat has been fully neutralized."

Al-Ansari assured that Qatar's interceptor missile stockpiles have not been depleted at all, noting that "we maintain full combat readiness and our stockpiles are sufficient to deal with the existing threat."

"Since the start of these attacks on the State of Qatar last Saturday, three cruise missiles have been fired at Qatar — all intercepted; 101 ballistic missiles, 98 of which were intercepted; 39 unmanned aerial vehicles, 24 of which were intercepted. Two fighter jets entered Qatari airspace and were also engaged and shot down," he added.
