Iran has officially notified the UNESCO Director-General of serious damage to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Golestan Palace and parts of Tehran's Grand Bazaar as a result of what it calls unlawful military attacks by the United States and Israel, the Iranian government announced.

National assessments confirm structural and decorative damage caused by explosions and blast waves. The sites now require urgent technical assessment, emergency stabilization and protective measures to prevent further deterioration.

Iran emphasized that such actions violate international obligations, including UN Security Council Resolution 2347 (2017), the 1972 World Heritage Convention, and the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.

Iran has called on UNESCO to condemn the attacks, demand a halt to strikes on cultural heritage sites, immediately dispatch UNESCO experts, cooperate in stabilization, documentation and preservation efforts, and activate World Heritage protection mechanisms.

The US and Israel have been striking Iranian territory since February 28, causing destruction and casualties. In response, Iran has been launching missile strikes against Israel and US military bases in the region. Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials were also killed in the Israeli-American strikes.

On March 2, Hezbollah joined the war against Israel. Israel announced the launch of an offensive operation against the movement.
