Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on March 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry press service reports.

The two discussed developments in the region resulting from what Russia describes as the unprovoked armed aggression of the US and Israel against Iran. "It was emphasized that such actions undermine the fundamental norms of international law and carry the gravest consequences for the entire Middle East. This position was clearly confirmed by Russia's representative at the UN Security Council meeting.

Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's principled position in favor of de-escalation, rejection of the use of force, and a transition to a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict, as well as Russia's readiness to contribute fully to this end. The priority of taking measures to ensure the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure in all countries of the region was also emphasized," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.
