Oil prices could reach $200 per barrel due to Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, said Brigadier General Ebrahim Jabari, the adviser to the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran, TASS reports.

"We [i.e. Iran] have closed the Strait of Hormuz. The price of oil has now exceeded $80 and will soon reach $200 [per barrel]. The United States, whose life and death depend on oil, is suffering from debts and internal problems.

America is thirsty for oil. Let them know that we have closed the Strait of Hormuz for now and are not allowing ships to pass," Jabari said, reports ISNA news agency.

He added that Iran will strike "any country that tries to export fuel from here. As of now, Iran has already hit several ships."
