One of the main distributors of this news has become a radio station known for its connections with Western states and special services; more precisely, its service which operates in Armenia. Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated this on Wednesday, as she commented on the leak of the Armenian service of the RFE/RL radio, according to which, ahead of the parliamentary elections in Armenia in June, Yerevan has asked Brussels for a “rapid response” team to “counter hybrid threats.”

“In a very interesting way, they got hold of the letter from the Armenian foreign minister. How it got to them is unclear. But it is possible that this is one of the first ‘hybrid attacks.’ Maybe they hacked something. Maybe they stole that letter,” Zakharova added.

As for the essence of the matter, the Russian MFA spokesperson noted that sending a rapid response team to Armenia is an obvious projection of the “Moldovan scenario.” At the same time, the RFE/RL reporters note that last year the European “landing force” worked in Chisinau to assist the Moldovan authorities in “countering Russian disinformation.”

“The active engagement of EU experts during the pre-election period and a possible constitutional referendum is unlikely to strengthen the true sovereignty of Armenia. Rather, everything will be the opposite. We note the position of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, according to which the work of specialists invited from the EU will not be directed against Russia. Therefore, in the event of an official invitation from the Armenian side, Russia will also be ready to develop the matter of sending a similar group of specialists on a bilateral basis,” the Russian MFA spokesperson stated.

At the same time, she reminded that the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is also endowed with all the necessary capabilities related to elections and procedures. And Armenia, as a member of the CIS, can always turn to its executive committee for assistance.

“I am sure that they will not be refused in this matter,” added Zakharova.
