French President Emmanuel Macron contacted Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on March 4 to express "France's European solidarity" in response to recent threats from US President Donald Trump.

According to EFE, citing Elysée Palace sources, Macron "just spoke with President Sanchez to express France's European solidarity in response to the recent threats of economic pressure made yesterday against Spain."

Earlier, Trump suggested halting trade with Spain over the Spanish government's position on the current international conflict in the Middle East.

Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez in turn addressed the press on March 4 to reaffirm his cabinet's position on the crisis, summing it up in four words: "No to the war."
