NEW YORK. - The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will hold its 56th session this year on the topic of “The Empowerment of Rural Women and Their Role in Poverty and Hunger Eradication: Development and Current Challenges.”

The Armenian International Women’s Association (AIWA) will participate in the meeting on Feb. 27, the opening day of the session, The Armenian Mirror-Spectator reports. Hundreds of women attend the CSW sessions annually in New York from all over the world.

The AIWA workshop will concentrate on the issues relating to the position of rural women in Armenia, and the perspectives gained from programs elaborated in other states.

Two professionals, Sara Anjargolian and Ana Cristina Schirinian, experienced in working with rural women, will hold presentations and assess various strategies used to address the empowerment of women.
