Outside the Agarak checkpoint on the border with Iran, 180-200 trucks are currently waiting for the opportunity to cross the border on the Armenian side, the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia has told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

It was noted that there are periodic communication failures on the Iranian side of the border, and this is why queues may periodically form. But in the absence of communication, they are working with a paper version, which is more time-consuming. In order not to cause congestion, there may be certain restrictions for the people at the border in order to ensure the normal movement of trucks.

“Due to the situation in Iran, cargo carriers do not want to use the territory of Iran as a transit country, preferring to transport cargo imported from China and other countries of the Middle East through the territory of Georgia. Therefore, it is conceivable and natural that the amount of cargo transportation through Iran shall drop. In recent days, a certain drop in cargo transportation amount has been observed, which is not very significant," the SRC added.
